Sometimes you know you need a new professional headshot.
And sometimes you happen to notice a photography studio while vacuuming out your car. That is exactly how this session started.
My client saw The Portrait Studio by Danielle Renae Photography here in Mercer, PA, reached out, and about three weeks later she was standing in front of my camera getting the professional headshots she needed.
The entire process was quick, easy, and still gave her plenty of options to choose from.
Before her session, we talked on the phone about what she needed the photos for and got her appointment scheduled. Then, as the session got closer, we texted back and forth about outfit ideas.
Professional headshots do not require an entire wardrobe, but what you wear does matter. Color, neckline, fit, jewelry, hair, and even the backdrop can change the overall feel of a photograph.
She came into the studio with her hair and makeup already done and brought an outfit change with her. Ultimately, she decided she did not need to change outfits at all.
Instead, she simply changed her hairstyle during the session, and we used three different studio backdrops along with different poses and expressions to create plenty of variety from one look.
One of the best parts of photographing professional headshots in my Mercer studio is that you do not have to wonder whether we are getting what you need. As we photographed, she could see the images coming through in real time.
That means we could look at what was working, make adjustments, change her pose or expression, and keep going until she had options she really liked. I lightly coached her throughout the session while using her input as we went.
By the end of this 30 minute session, we had created around 15 different headshot options using different poses, expressions, backdrops, and styling. She originally only needed one. She chose two. She simply paid the difference for the additional image, I professionally edited both selections, and they were delivered directly to her email within a few hours of her session.
A professional headshot is often something people put off because they assume it is going to require a complicated photo shoot. It does not.
Sometimes you simply need an updated photograph for:
Your company website
A professional bio
Business cards
Speaking engagements
Social media
Job applications
Marketing materials
You may only need one great image. My goal is to give you enough variety that you can actually choose the one you feel best represents you, without turning a straightforward headshot into an all-day production.
For this client, we talked beforehand, planned what she would wear, photographed several different looks within the studio, chose her favorites, and had the finished images in her inbox that same day.
Quick. Easy. Polished.
Afterward, she thanked me for being a good coach during the session and told me she could not wait to work together again. That is exactly what I want someone to feel when they walk out of my studio.
If your current headshot is outdated, cropped from another photograph, or simply does not look like the professional you are today, it may be time for a new one.
