Grove City Senior Pictures at Lake Wilhelm

I helped this Grove City senior plan her outdoor senior pictures at Lake Wilhelm. She asked for flowers, a gravel road, a white dress, her welding hood and cap and gown pictures. With the water, trees and open landscape around us, we had plenty of room to create several completely different looks without spending the entire session driving from one location to another.

Three Outfits, Three Different Sides of Her

She brought three outfits, a welding hood and used my studio closet cap and gown, which gave us the chance to create much more than one predictable set of senior pictures.

That is one of the things families are often surprised by during my sessions. A single location does not give us only one background, and an outfit does not give us only one photograph. With a good location, a few different looks and a few simple props we can get a ton of variety very easily.

One senior. More than one version.

That variety matters because seniors are rarely just one thing. They may want something relaxed in one outfit, a more polished look in another and photographs that recognize the milestone they are about to reach.

Including Cap and Gown Pictures

We also photographed her in her cap and gown.

Cap and gown senior pictures can sometimes feel like an afterthought, or like something you have to wait until the end of the year for, but they represent the part of senior year everyone has been working toward. Including them during the senior portrait session gave her another meaningful piece of the story without requiring a completely separate photo appointment.

She now has senior portraits that celebrate who she is right now, along with images that mark where she is headed next.

She Is Going Home With Digital Images

After the session, she chose her favorite fully edited digital images.

Not my favorites, not identical images and not a single one she wasn't in love with.

Her final collection included different outfits, expressions, compositions and views of the Lake Wilhelm setting. She has enough variety to choose favorites for yearbook and social media without feeling as though every photograph told the same story.

Her reaction to the finished images was one of the best parts of the entire experience. She smiled so big, her mama cried, her sister was in awe.

That is the standard I am working toward during every senior session.
